University of Ghana orders students with CGPA below 1.00 to withdraw - what the notice says
The University of Ghana's Academic Affairs Directorate says undergraduate students who finished the 2025/2026 academic year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.00 must withdraw from their programmes. Here is what the directive says, what the regulation behind it says, and the channels the university points affected students to.

This is a news report of a university directive, not personal advice. Any individual student's position is decided by the university's own records and offices - the MIS Web, the STS portal and the College Academic Offices named in the notice.
What the directive says
In a notice posted on Facebook on Thursday, 22 October, the University of Ghana's Academic Affairs Directorate told undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study. The directive applies once all grades for a student's registered courses have been released.
According to the notice, affected students are to check their CGPAs on the university's Management Information System (MIS) Web, then log in to the Student and Staff Portal (STS) at sts.ug.edu.gh/services with their Student ID and PIN and select "Withdrawal Request" to start the process. For some programmes, the notice says, the relevant school or department will initiate the withdrawal on the student's behalf.
Students who want clarification on their academic standing or the procedure are directed to their College Academic Offices. The notice adds that the university's Careers and Counselling Directorate remains available to support and guide affected students.
What the regulation says
The directive cites Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), the university's published rules for undergraduate progression. The regulation says a student satisfies the requirements for progression with a CGPA of 1.00 or better overall, alongside any additional requirements set by their school or department. Section 9.25 defines a student in good standing as one whose CGPA is at least 1.00 (Grade D).
The regulation states plainly: "There shall be no probation." A candidate who does not qualify to progress "shall be asked by the Registrar to withdraw from the University."

Not the first time
The university has applied the same rule before. In 2023 it withdrew Level 200 and Level 300 students with CGPAs below 1.00 in the Colleges of Basic and Applied Sciences, Education and Humanities, effective the 2023/2024 academic year, Graphic Online reported at the time, also citing Section 9.26. That round told affected students to expect official withdrawal letters by their university email addresses and offered fee refunds on request; the current notice, as reported, does not mention refunds or letters and instead points students to the STS portal.
What this means for families supporting UG students
If your child, ward or relative is at the University of Ghana, the notice's own steps are the starting point: ask them to check their CGPA on the MIS Web as soon as grades are complete, and if it is below 1.00, the withdrawal request goes through the STS portal - unless their school or department handles it for their programme. Questions about a specific record go to the student's College Academic Office, and the Careers and Counselling Directorate is the university's stated support channel.
The notice, as reported by MyJoyOnline, Citi Newsroom and Adomonline, sets no deadline date for submitting the withdrawal request. Until the university says more, its own channels are the place to confirm what applies to a particular student.
